The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
5.0

This book was absolutely beautiful.

I am surprised that I never had to read this book for school. But I am truly not upset about it because I don't know if it would've hit the same way then than it did now.

I picked up this book on a whim when I needed an audio book to listen to. However, I immediately had to pause the audiobook to start highlighting in my physical copy because I had immediately fallen in love with these characters. S.E Hinton did such an incredible job of creating and introducing these characters that feel so real and find ways into your heart. I didn't even realise how deeply this book had affected me until I started crying mid-read. And once I finished the book, I closed it and I just sat there and cried for another twenty. I don't know how this book managed to make me feel so much and so deeply but it was such a special experience.

I got to talking about this book with my dad who read it 30 years ago and still remembered the exact story and got excited talking about it with me. The fact that this book was written almost 60 years ago and two people from very different generations, raised in different circumstances at different times in their lives still holds relevance just proves that this book truly is timeless.
