The Long Song
by Andrea Levy
Capturing the voice of those enslaved and working on the plantations of Jamicia in the early 19th century has been powerfully done by Levy. There are so many layers to this story and although it may be confronting it is most definitely a must read.
Colonialism is a word but when translated to the stories of individuals who were enslaved it becomes a tangible, very human and at the same time inhumane story.
I really appreciated the voice of July, there was an authenticity in the way she expressed her story .. and
