We Can Never Leave This Place is the second story I've read from author Eric LaRocca and I can assure you that it won't be my last. LaRocca offered the chance to read an ARC copy of the story on social media and I jumped at the chance, having loved Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke in 2021. LaRocca's titles are evocative and that continues here with this story.

The two titles I've read from LaRocca are both novellas, that pack an amazing punch and leave you wanting to have read more. In We Can Never Leave This Place, we read about Mara, who's father has recently passed. Mara and her mother are left in a grieving, sort of war-torn/post-apocalyptic apartment together and their relationship is, well, I don't want to spoil anything, but I mean this is the horror genre, so you can imagine.

LaRocca's writing is just so good, LaRocca's ability to craft really compelling, thoughtful and often times downright horrifying sentences is second to none in the genre that stay with this reader for long after the time where I have finished reading the story and that's exactly what I'm looking for in the horror genre. Highly recommended!

*should note that while the author provided an ARC copy of the story, I'm a fan and this story kept me right on track of being a fan and I'll be purchasing a copy upon release to help support the author!
