While still an enjoyable read, I found myself rather distracted by some inconsistencies, in particular Ember suddenly being referred to as a female cat, despite having been a tom since his introduction, and having had his 'maleness' she position as one of the men in Phryne's life being referenced at least once in almost every book. Others noticed was Tinker's budding crush on Jane is suddenly gone, and the fact that the culprit killed himself on the side of the road and Phryne and the officer dashed off leaving him there while people came out to see the commotion, and yet nobody, including someone who had been fond of him, seemed to notice or care.
