Welcome to the School by the Sea by Jenny Colgan

3.5 ⭐️i absolutely devoured this book. i always loved gossipy boarding school books when i was younger, so to have one written that was more aimed for adults is great. but, my god, did the unnecessary fat shaming irk the hell out of me! bruh this poor girl being described and labeled as ‘fat’ for the entire book and the author quoting things like “she would be prettier if she lost a few pounds”. it shocked me! this book was published this year and you would think that useless shit would be over with now, but apparently not. it’s sad because i really loved this book. i also was really confused because the narrator was all knowing and used different tenses all the time so it was hard to follow. it would have been better if it was split by point of view in chapters, like how it is in other books. anyway. stop fat shaming, it makes you mean and ugly.
update: read more reviews on here and agree that also; there were too many subplots and she tries to do too much at once in this book. the conclusion seems unrealistic and quick for teenage girls to suddenly like eachother so fast. idk. i also feel like this was not a romance AT ALL. a cute guy basically trying to cheat on his fiancé to then break up with her and lowkey pressure another engaged woman to get with him. idk. this was basically the exact opposite of the feminist novella i read prior to this lol.
