The Game-Players of Titan
by Philip K. Dick
Not one of PDK's best works, although it has a few trippy moments reminiscent of Ubik or The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. But what really brought this novel down was just how unfocused it was, and the ending was both rushed and anticlimactic. At first I thought this novel would follow a simple murder mystery plot, but it quickly derails into alien (from Titan) political intrigue surround this game they all play (which is basically just Monopoly). And, in typical PKD fashion, there is a great concept there with the idea of a board game causing real life consequences, and perhaps it inspired A Maze of Death.
