What We Don't Talk About by Charlot Kristensen

4.0

This book brings up a lot of very important topics related to micro-aggressions, side comments and racism. It really points out the difference between what one group or family can perceive as offensive or, due to ignorance and lack of exposure to other races, not offensive. The story is tragic and really is a horror scenario for a young woman whose partner's family has no understanding of her culture, respect for her family or willingness to learn and adjust their behavior. The story promotes a strong lesson of listening to your friends and significant others about their background, supporting them when they feel uncomfortable and confronting your parents or family with their racism.
