I’m not a big romance reader, so maybe that’s why I didn’t love this one as much as everyone else does. My major complaint was that the writing and some dialogue erred a little corny, but that improved over the course of the book. I also didn’t fully understand
The purpose of Ty’s death or why Shane‘s response was inappropriate given that situation. The novel did kind of cover it by saying he was becoming too codependent with his students, but I think it was a reasonable reaction, and I would personally have not thought it was a signifier of Shane’s unreadiness for his relationship with Eva. Although this could come from a place where I am younger than the author/characters and untraumatized, so maybe I don’t have the right insight for that situation.
As far as the positives of this book, I did like a lot of the themes, and when the writing wasn’t corny, it was quite nice. The characters were complex , and I think the authors point of view and musings were interesting.
