The Tangled Lands by Tobias S. Buckell, Paolo Bacigalupi
4.0

This was an interesting take on a magical story. It's about the use of magic over many years and it now has terrible consequences of use in what's called bramble. This is a 4 part story told from 4 different perspectives, each one about how the bramble has affected them and how they will try to get away from the bramble covered cities.
I found it interesting that it was split into 4 very different parts, all told from a different perspective. I found myself really intrigued especially with the 1st and 2nd parts, but the last 2 parts were okay. Each part told its side about the city of Khaim and this person's part, or their families part. 1st part was about father and daughter, 2nd part about an executioners family, 3rd part about 2 kids that came from a higher known city of Alacan, and how everyone in Khaim despised the Alacaners, and 4th part about a blacksmith's family. Each part of the story only slightly tied in aspects of the other parts of the story. Ultimately, I found myself wanting more from each part of the story. I did really enjoy the book overall. I found myself able to read a couple pages but thinking about the story for hours after.
