What a rollercoaster ride that was. This fast paced story had me at the edge of my seat and was mental gymnastics for me as I questioned everyone and everything. Gen’s perspective seemed so genuine, it was easy to slip myself alongside her as she tries to determine the truth of what happened to baby Beth. ⁣

I loved how McKenzie drops red herrings, not to purposely throw the reader off track, but because even they would be so believable. What is MDO? Is Hen telling the truth? Why is Charlotte calling Art so much? This whole read is a journey of sorting truth in lies in a really enjoyable way. At one point I was wondering if everyone was just involved in some sort of cryptic cult! ⁣

One thing that stung me badly was Tris’ portrayal. All of the characters at that point had been so fluid, well thought out, and surely written. Yet Tris…as brief as his appearance was, it just seemed a little forced and stereotypical. ⁣

I was able to guess two out of the major three plot twists, which, hey, happens to me a lot…but if you’re looking for a high stakes story of a mother that will do anything for their child, seriously, pick this up. It almost gave me Rosemary’s Baby vibes, but in the best way. ⁣
