So this is what men mean when they say bitches be crazy. Almost every woman in this book fell on the spectrum of awfulness. And it was great! It's pretty rare to have a complex, awful woman who is not just a sex bomb. This book was tense and discomforting. I thought Gillian Flynn did a great job of communicating the stifling nature of a small town. She also did a great job demonstrating the perilous side of femininity and mothers. The book was not as sophisticated as Gone Girl, and I felt somewhat underwhelmed at the end. I probably would have been more shocked if I had not experienced Gone Girl.
