This books takes the label “slow-paced” to a whole new level. I kept waiting for something to happen, but only a small handful of things did in this book that is almost twice as long as the first one. The setting was also much more drab than the beautifully described Area X. On the other hand, I did find Control’s character interesting, and some of the characters at the Southern Reach. I am going to read the third book, because I still need to know what’s up with Area X.
