The Snowman by Jo Nesbø

Oh boy, what a terrific read this was! It's not the first Harry Hole novel, but it's the first I read, and I don't think I lost out by not having read the prior books (not all of which are translated into English anyway). It's a police procedural, with Hole on the trail of a possible serial killer as he investigates a series of disappearances going back to 1980. It's relentlessly creepy and fast-paced, with a great cast of suspects. I had my suspicions about the outcome very early on, and I turned out to be right, but that didn't spoil the ride one bit. Fans of modern noir, the novels of Stephen King and the films of David Fincher and Christopher Nolan should all be heartily satisfied. I look forward to reading more from Nesbo.
