Crystal Gorge by Leigh Eddings, David Eddings

Story time... I started this book the tail end of summer break before school started up again. Not because the book wasn't interesting, the characters weren't witty, and the inside jokes weren't fun, but because I can't pleasure read and do school work at the same time (more's the pity). These books don't shine as brightly as the Elenium or the Belgariad. That doesn't mean they aren't good, but it does mean that you have to purposely ignore the author lest you set yourself up for disappointment. The back-storying can get tiresome occasionally, and I have to admit that I think the characters are better off explaining in the moment. Telling us, and then telling us what you told us later at the behest of another character isn't a great approach. But, over all, I enjoyed the book a great deal.
