nauticalamity 's review for:
Seven Blades in Black
by Sam Sykes
3.5/4 stars.
good - worldbuilding, characters, story, ending (!!!, any disinterest i had about the sequel vanished with that)
meh/bad - repetitive writing (the frequency of single sentence paragraphs that were 'and....' started getting to me around page 250 - there were some other annoying style choices), length (normally not a problem, but definitely could have been edited)
i didn't feel like it was the action itself that was repetitive, the story always felt like we were moving somewhere. i didn't feel the midway drag some people felt. most of my issues boil down to writing style, frankly! overall, it's a fun book with a wildly disrespectful protag.
