Skeletons at the Feast
by Chris Bohjalian
This was sad. More than sad. It is a great book that details the naivety and brutality of the German people, and of war in general, because let's be honest - the Allied and Russian troops weren't exactly the kindest, most reasonable warriors. That being said, the beautiful coming to terms and understanding of Anna, the unusual but persistent hope of Cecile, poke bright, glittering holes in a story about the darkest times of history. I really, actually, unexpectedly loved this book.
