The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty

While not written by a person from that part of the world, this is an attempt at writing fantasy based on another country's heritage and mythology that works. It was obvious that it was written by an actual Muslim from its treatment of religion in the lives of its characters. Aaaaand, I had a blast reading it as a fantasy novel. Very much recommended for fans of Rebel of the Sands so that they can upgrade the quality of their cross-cultural fantasy consumption.
