Strong character development: No

I can not stand Violet. She is not "Spunky" she is just rude and annoying. In the very beginning, she talks about how her job kind of sucks, and she works two jobs for extra income (which she then uses the income to pay for things for the first job.) And then she immediately makes fun of Rhett's job. Multiple times. And every single thing she takes as a "challenge" to prove herself, or that someone is testing her.

Certain things are annoyingly repetitive, it is told to us (the readers) multiple times that she is from Normal, Kentucky. And grew up near the Daniel Boone National Forest, which serves no purpose to the story other than to mention it repeatedly. And then she repeatedly tells every person her hometown is Normal, Kentucky.

She constantly wonders why people don't tell her things. And it is completely obvious that she is a nobody. It is none of her business who someone's ex-girlfriend is and the police don't have to tell her every single thing they do, she doesn't tell them what she does.

Multiple things just seemed very unrealistic. The pilot asked the random passenger to search the dead body for a wallet when they were literally landing the plane that moment, and the police boarded the plane immediately. Violet, who claims she doesn't really drink (or doesn't drink at all), was able to out-drink the 5-year champion of some drinking contest? Violet being an outsider, being mean to literally everyone, (breaking into someone's shed), and lying about how important she is, so then everyone just trusts her with evidence and information? She should be prime suspect number 1. Also, the fact that so many people from the plane just happened to live in the small town (that the plane wasn't supposed to stop in) that is a 2 hour drive from the main airport is beyond wild. (And the pilot and flight attendant both saw the dead man's face but didn't recognize him as their neighbor??) And she discovered the murderer by some "lucky chance" of a note falling down.. This plot is contrived nonsense.
