The message of this book impacted me so hard that I quit reading 75% of the way through so I could just go act on it in real life. 2 months later I came back to finish it and I have some FEELINGS.

Genuinely one of the most personally relevant, relatable, and emotional reading experiences I’ve ever had. Jesus this book is SO GOOD.

The protagonists were so lovable and the antagonists so hateable… the grey morals of the Other Kingdom were so intriguing… the descriptions were so lush and rich. The way Romanian folklore is used is stunning. It’s dark without being fake edgy, and the ending is just perfect for this type of story.

And just. THE MESSAGES. True love winning out, faith bringing happiness, and sacrifice and hard work being necessary anyway… hoo boy that got to me. Gogu and Jena’s relationship cut so close to my heart and life. The way everything ended with Cezar was so cathartic for my personal issues. Jena’s increasing trust in Draguta was so similar to my own currently growing faith. Also, the sisterly relationships were beautiful. Tati and Sorrow made me cry. BUT. MOST OF ALL. GOGU AND JENA. UGH!!! I LOVE THEM!!!

I bought this book on a whim but I kinda think God sent it to me as a sign because I am genuinely a changed woman now
