Layla by Colleen Hoover

5.0

I think everyone knows I love Colleen Hoover by now. She is such a talented writer and has the most creative aspects included in her books. Whether it is song lyrics, or poems, or confessions, her mind is able to do so much more than just tell a story. She is one of the best at writing a gripping romance, she was able to write a domestic thriller that people still talk about, and now she succeeds in writing a paranormal? Bow down to the queen.

I don't think this is a spoiler but read with caution: my usual complaint with a "ghost story" is that is ends up being able to be explained and isn't truly about ghosts. Layla is one of the first books with this premise that begins and ends the book with ghosts being very much real and responsible.

I totally believe in ghosts to some extent so I was drawn in to this plot so quickly. I was annoyed with Leeds for a good portion of the book but once the twist becomes apparent, I realized how loyal and perfect he really is.

I am just overall impressed that an author can come up with this plot, character development, and twists! This is definitely a book that will stick with me and that I will recommend to many friends.
