The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
2.5
emotional hopeful reflective medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: N/A
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book is incredibly self-reflective, to the point where it feels preachy at times and makes you wonder if it is meant to be a self-help book rather than a fictional narrative. There is almost too much reflection done by Nora on her own life for the story to move along. Nora’s
struggle with depression and ultimate decision to end her life
are indeed central to the story, but there needs to be something else that drives her and the narrative forward besides stopping to self-reflect on every other page. Unfortunately, this book quickly becomes boring for any reader who wants an actual story from Haig, who promises an interesting narrative, but fails to deliver it to his audience.
