kareyluwho 's review for:
Anne of the Island
by L.M. Montgomery
Okay I think there is an issue with these Green Gables sequels. Montgomery spends WAY too much time on irrelevant, annoying characters like freaking Davy (if I have to hear 'I wanna know' ONE more time I swear...). Then she spends only 3 sentences total on the relationships we ACTUALLY care about, like Anne's relationships with Gilbert and Roy. They are hardly in the book at all even though they both propose to Anne??? You don't get a sense of them as people or Anne's relationships with them. Why? Obviously you are following Anne's story because you care about her personal growth and romantic relationships.
Anne courts Roy for TWO YEARS and then he proposes. You don't get a sense of their relationship at all. Just one little scene with an umbrella. It's honestly such an unbalanced narrative.
