raptorimperator 's review for:
Tarkin
by James Luceno
3.5 stars.
Overall the plot is rather dull and predictable. The book is more a character study of Tarkin than anything else, which was its saving grace. The reader learn about his past and his rise to prominence, how he dealt with Vader, and his belief in the right of the Empire. The addition of Vader is nice as the reader sees how the two interacted prior to A NEW HOPE. A lot of the Empire and it’s inner workings are explored as well. I just wished the plot surrounding all the character study was better. Thrawn by Zahn was similar in its approach in plot and storyline surrounding Grand Admiral Thrawn’s character study but pulled it off way better.
