Slow paced until midway through. I thought the beginning half was a bit repetitive, important for world building and lore but kinda bland. The final half picks up and is more exciting and diverse in the cast of characters. It took me a couple of days to get through the beginning half, then I stopped for about a month, picked it back up and finished the second half of the book in one sitting. I didn’t hate the book and didn’t completely enjoy it until midway, but I would reread. Seriously, the second half made me start liking the characters and feel more invested in what was happening.
Moderate: Death, Gore, Sexual content, Torture, Violence, Blood, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Slavery, Kidnapping, Grief, Death of parent, War
