Emma by Stephen Maxfield Parrish, Jane Austen

5.0

I love how flawed Emma is. Her conceit and self-importance as the upper class girl gives the reader a new angle on the Austen novel. It would be like if she wrote P&P from the POV of Caroline Bingley. Only, because we view the world from Emma's perspective rather than, say, Jane Fairfax, we can sympathize with her and see her grow beyond her shallow Caroline Bingley shell. Even better, that Mr. Knightley berates her so. It is nice to see that the hero isn't taken in by Emma; that he isn't fooled by her. This is definitely one of my favorite Austen novels, but then pretty much all of them are.
