Essential X-Men, Vol. 11 by Chris Claremont, Jim Lee, Peter David, Paul Smith, Fabian Nicieza, Tom Raney, Whilce Portacio, Andy Kubert

4.0

Well, it's over and it's a bit sad. Near the end, it's easy to see Claremont is getting ready to go, with co-writing credits everywhere. I can't blame him, it's pretty obvious where he had to script over decisions made by the artist and I'm sure that got annoying.
There's a sense a lot of things are rushed at the end, especially with the Shadow King, but it all coalesces smoothly. And, there's plenty of plot threads left hanging that will never be resolved, even by future writers.
But, there's a bunch of great stuff in this volume, particularly the Savage Land story and the aforementioned Shadow King moments. And Jim Lee's art really is fantastic, sometimes revolutionary. There will never be another run like Claremont's.
