Gory Details: Adventures from the Dark Side of Science by Erika Engelhaupt

challenging dark informative mysterious reflective medium-paced

4.0

If I could describe this book with two words, they would be “gross” and “introductory”.

Gross, because a lot of the topics here are. I guess it depends on you which you find to be worse, but personally the one about cockroaches getting into peoples ears and noses activated my fight-flight-or-self-destruct instincts.

Introductory, because Engelhaupt doesn’t dive too deep in any of these topics. This book is fun to get to know what’s out there in the world, but it won’t give you all the answers. It’s a good place to start, knowing the basics about something specific like, let’s say, poop transplants. But after that, you have to make your own research about poop transplants if you want more.
