Once you start reading you really just can't put it down. It's so engaging from the very first chapter.
I loved Luella. So often we get a fmc who is whiny, scared, etc. Luella is absolutely none of those things. She's sassy and not afraid to stand up to the literal king. She definitely makes him work for her affection and he starts to genuinely change while trying to earn it.
Eldas wasn't amazing for me but I did really like him. I would have liked more of his backstory explained but with it being a standalone I imagine we couldn't have all the details without needing to add more books.
The pacing was fantastic. Nothing felt too rushed or too drawn out. My first book by Elise Kova but most definitely not my last.
