Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

5.0

Review coming, but an easy 5 stars, one of the best literary fiction books I've read this year!

You know when you’re in the mood for a literary book? (Maybe the answer is no lol), but if you don’t shy away from books that some might consider tedious? Or maybe you’re feeling a mix of nostalgia, heartache, melancholy, hopeful, open, and earnest?

I’d say any combination of these things is what’s required to read this devastatingly beautiful literary gem by Gabrielle Zevin. This is a character-driven story at heart, but the backdrop is set in the world of video game creation. You need to be unafraid to venture into a world of gaming (a world I’m not familiar with), but it’s much more about friendship and growing up than about the ins and outs of video games (but make no mistake, gaming functions like another character, so it’s presence is undeniable).

It’s coming of age, it’s heartfelt, it’s all of us and none of us. It’s a book about artists and friendship and love and the missteps we take when trying to convey how we feel.

Read if:
1. You enjoyed generational epics like Pachinko, creative teams like those in The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, and the tone of a Sally Rooney book.
2. You need a book for book club! Honestly, best read with others. I finished this one by myself, then forced my friends to read it so we could talk about it. Highly recommend being *that* girl.
3. You like: literary allusions, getting your heart broken while you read, zinging prose, 1990’s nostalgia, a story told over decades, eMotIOnAl reads, complicated relationships, and MC’s that might make you crazy.
