Above Suspicion
by Lynda La Plante
This book was part of the required reading for a "law and literature" workshop I'm participating in a few weeks from now. Unfortunately, I was rather underwhelmed. The story is fairly standard (horrible murderer-rapist on the loose! Catch him before he kills again!), the characters are pretty bland (young, keen female detective falls for rough, gruff chief) and the writing is just so-so. A part from the usual rush in wanting the murder to be caught, there isn't really much here to sate a more curious, savvy reader. Good for a beach read borrowed from the library, but not anything lasting or even unique.
