not gonna lie, it was a relief to finally read a sapphic vampire book that didn't make me wanna rip my hair out, questioning the entire genre. the story is lush and boasts exquisite world-building, as well as the usual type of bold, unabashedly forward female characters that V.E. Schwab is very fond of writing. although there's nothing in particular i found unlikeable, i think there was a certain lack of storytelling flair i would expect from the author. i also think this is a little too reminiscent of addie larue but that's my own thing that i keep complaining about in Schwab's books, yet ignore every time.
as it is, toxic lesbian vampires is exactly what you get, just don't forget that those undead peeps are old and live through a lot of shit
