Blood Orange
by Harriet Tyce
4 stars
Alison has it all.
A loving family and a career on the rise - she's just been given her first murder case to defend.
But all is never as it seems.
After seeing this book all over bookstagram for the past few months and hearing so many good reviews, I picked it up as soon as I saw it in The Works and was so excited when finally got around to reading it.
I loved how Harriett Tyce wove the story perfectly, hiding so many hints throughout the story in such a way that you don't realise what is going to happen and then feel stupid after the final chapter that you didn't figure it out.
I have very mixed feelings about the character of Allison. Some times you feel sympathetic for how she's being treated and other times you want to throw the book out of a tenth story window because she's just so frustrating and continues to have an affair with a man whose even worse than her husband. Just why would anyone do that?
I would've rated this 5 stars, however there was a section between the gripping first half of the book and the last few chapters leading up to finale that felt a bit out of place. The pace suddenly slowed down and felt a bit more tedious to read than the other parts.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to fellow fans of psychological and domestic thrillers.
