Heartless by Marissa Meyer

I was super excited about this book. I had heard about it all over tiktok and I loved the idea of a villain origin story. I was not disappointed when I starting this read. Other than the fact that the first hundred and fifty pages were filled with a girl just liking to bake. I was so confused how this sweet girl who wanted to open a bakery became the queen of hearts. So when the big battle/climax scene happened at the end of the book I felt it was rusted in some way. Of course, I fell for Jest right away. I loved his character. He is what made me keep reading. I wish we could get a backstory novel for him. I would simply inhale that book. As much as I enjoyed all the characters in this book I wish the pacing was faster. The villain revel was one of my favorite things from this book ( Besides Jest obviously ). I felt as if the character Mary Ann should have gotten a bigger role in the book somehow, as well as the Raven. I am always cautious getting into Marissa Meyers books, hence why I haven't finished the Lunar Chronicles, but I hope to finish the series soon. Getting back on track, I was pleased to find that I didn't have an on edge feeling while reading this book, like I had with Cinder and Renegades.
