This is the type of book that makes you question every single 5 star review you have given in the past. The little description on the back of the book almost frames it as a romance akin to Twilight, but do not be fooled this book is far from that. It is horror, murder, gore, deception, spice, religion, moral conundrums, pining, manipulation, abuse, and grief all rolled into one. It gives very similar vibes as reading a Stephen King book, however, I have enjoyed reading Tananarive Due much more than any of King’s books I have read so far. Her descriptive and emotionally resonant writing really pulls you into the story and urges you to imagine it cinematically. You will have a lot of trouble setting this one down.
