I can't believe it took me so long to finally start Will Trent! I've been seeing a bunch of hype for it, and it exceeded my expectations!
Obviously Karin Slaughter's books are more on the gory side, so if you don't like detailed descriptions of crimes and murder and mutilated bodies, I would skip this one.
I really liked how this story was laid out. The way we start the story thinking one thing about a certain character and then slowly more things are revealed that make us detest him 🤯 Genius writing - it kept the story fresh and interesting!
Will Trent is introduced as a character a little ways through the book. I instantly liked him. He is an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and is helping out with finding a possible serial killer. He has his quirks, some of them stemming from the fact that he is dyslexic and struggles with reading. He has a troubling backstory, and I'm looking forward to learning more about him in the next book.
The cast of characters in this book was great. Characters can make or break a story, and Karin Slaughter excels with character building!
I will say, it became obvious throughout the story whodunit but it seemed intentional that it was so obvious. The ending didn't come as a complete shock to me, but it was still satisfying.
Overall, I really enjoyed this first installment to the Will Trent series! If you enjoy crime fiction, police procedurals, and thrillers, this is definitely one to check out.
