Salt Lane by William Shaw
4.0

Enjoyable mystery with an interesting protagonist in Alex Cupidi set on the very atmospheric Romney Marsh. It features some of the same characters from William Shaw's previous novel The Birdwatcher which I enjoyed very much. This involves the contemporary problem of migrant workers and their exploitation and others who seem to vanish from society. Some well described action made it an exciting read though the heroine did have an unfortunate habit of not calling for back up when she should have done. Once is allowable, twice seems like carelessness, particularly for a mother with a dependent teenage daughter. Alex Cupidi's rashness was described as a character flaw so the author just about got away with it. A good read.
