A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin
4.0

The kind of book I wish someone had pushed my way as a child. Criminally underrated — the first time I’d heard of Le Guin was, I think, on some anime site in my teen years where she criticized the Ghibli adaptation. I remember being bored stiff of Harry Potter and its popularity when I was 9/10 (of course I loved all the books, but I hated that that was all anyone seemed to know about) and Earthsea would have been tremendous for my growing reading habits.
It’s simultaneously a ‘standard’ fantasy setting while being revolutionary, especially remarkable considering its age. I look forward to reading more Earthsea, perhaps by a fireplace around Christmastime.
