Moonlight and the Pearler's Daughter by Lizzie Pook
adventurous
mysterious
medium-paced
4.0
Moonlight and the Pearler’s Daughter focuses on the 19th century pearl diving industry in a fictional small town of Bannin Bay. You read about the dangers people went through on the boats searching for these precious pearls.
The writing is so vivid and immersive, I felt like I could smell the salty sea air, hear the waves crashing along the shore and feel the burning sun’s rays on my skin.
Eliza was a delight to read about as a main character. She was headstrong, brave and would do anything for her family without caring what others thought of her and the risks involved. There is blackmail, secrets and dodgy characters a plenty that she has to come up against. When she realises that the local law will also not help her find out whether her father is alive or not after going missing on a boat trip, she knows it is down to her to find him.
Moonlight and the Pearler’s Daughter is a mysterious and gripping adventure story with a feisty heroine to root for, that is all about the things we would do for the people we love, no matter what dangers may lie ahead.
