2.25 ⭐️ bc there was like 2% more effort at having a plot than the last book. If I had a dollar for everytime the word “murmur” was used throughout the series I think it would be enough to pay me to make it worth my wild that I read the series. I enjoyed the first book, it had plot (a little non structured but it was there), some world building, and actually had the characters using the magic system the author created. But after book one, I legit think there was maybe 15 pages total of people using powers between the last two books and it was disappointing bc it was actually an interesting set up and we just lost the plot (literally—nothing really happens after book one until the very end of book 3). I was starting to find the two main characters annoying (sorry!! sue me). Their only agenda was each other and they claimed to care about other people but honestly their actions never convinced me 😭. I had no feelings for the side characters or what happened to them bc the author never made me care about them in the first place. The 2 stars were earned with my curiosity wondering where the hell we were going, and the set up of the plot (not the execution, no that was poor). I didn’t see some of the stuff coming at the end so she got me there, but bc I wasn’t attached I honestly wasn’t that affected by it (it was interesting but I was just like “ehh whatever,” type beat). The reasoning behind some of the major plot points in this book made sense, I’ll give the author that, however the execution of said plot points were rushed, shallow, and fell flat. And yeah not much else to say. like I said after I read the second book the romance was the main focus and clearly the author prioritized that over anything else of substance in this series as a whole. If that’s your cup of tea, give it a shot I guess. If not, (and you actually prefer a plot) I’d recommend you’d skip this series. xoxo I’m glad it’s done.
