I’m going to be honest, I actually loved this book. And I wasn’t expecting too because of the *discourse* that people were having around this book. Is it darker or more upsetting than Abby Jimenez normally writes? I think “yes” is a fair answer here. But I truly thought this was beautiful. I cried, I laughed, my heart ached. It really surprised me given how much people were talking about how “this book wasn’t for me.”

Insta love can be a tough trope for me, but genuinely I was on board from the first time they met. And the endless date at the beginning worked for me. And then it just built from there in a way that I loved.

Xavier and Samantha were delights. And I hope we get to continue to live in their world. It’s listed as a #1 in a series so I guess we’ll get her siblings’ love stories? And I cannot wait.

Definitely check the content warnings - animal lovers beware. But the love story aspect of it was just about right for me. Abby, you’re my girl through and through. You never fail me and that’s why I don’t take the internet seriously.
