How to Win Friends & Influence People
by Dale Carnegie
What a life-transforming book. Just finished the audio version on Audible of this incredible Dale Carnegie masterpiece. It was narrated by Andrew MacMillan and simply life transforming. I ordered a print version right away. I started listening to the book a few years ago and didn't continue; that I find so interesting because it's when the ideas start to resonate with us that we are most attracted to a book or a topic in any form, and yet, we need it all the more when we can't quite appreciate or grasp the ideas. That's when we are further away from the mindset we need to be in, and such is the catch 22 of mindset and personal development.
Well, I am incredibly glad that I have arrived in a place where I realize every concept in How To Win Friends and Influence People is like the gospel. And thrilled to see that, yes, I do so many of these strategies in my life and double yes to how it pays off.
My favorites are genuine compliments and praise as well as saying someone's name. They go such a long way to securing you a place of trust and like in another's heart. With the praise, the most useful feedback is making it specific AND genuine. People can pick up on a fake compliment or empty platitudes. Being genuine and really meaning it when we praise or encourage someone is a game changer for all of us.
There is so much gold in this book. Normally, story after story of historians, politicians, rags to riches stories doesn't fall on my favorite format of a book. Yet, I appreciated all the stories and the diligent research that went behind each and every one, as well as the 100% relevance to the points made in this incredible book.
I have not summarized the highlights of this book as there are so many better resources for that online. My heart-felt thanks for the work of Dale Carnegie is all I hope to say in this review. That and go read it now.
