The Hound of Duville and Other Stories by Kyle Robert Shultz
5.0
As much as I enjoy the Beaumont and Beasley books I have had questions about what their detective agency actually looks like. This little compilation of short stories answers some of those questions!
I love the range of stories. They are nicely book-ended with The Janus Elixir and The Hound of Duville as those two have some overlapping character references.
The Janus Elixir is a wild adventure mixing Jekyll and Hyde with Malcolm Blackfire in a much earlier setting of Talesend.
A Spoonful of Aether is one of my favorite stories in the Afterverse ever! I mean Cordelia is pretty much Mary Poppins and it has a LARGE dose of Doctor Who vibes.
My Man Beasley is from a new character's POV. It is quirky and extremely satirical, with a wild climax.
One Flew Over the Gryphon's Nest is brilliantly told through a collection of transcripts. I enjoyed the unique format, Shultz psychoanalyzing his own characters (lol), and very much enjoyed Molly's role in this story. :)
As always, Shultz's writing is excellent and I love the way these stories add depth and breadth to the Afterverse.
