Quest by Aaron Becker

This is a trimmed down version of my review, to view the full review visit The Book Ramble.

In this epic follow-up to Aaron Becker's Journey the Girl with the Red Chalk and the Boy with Purple Chalk must gather all of the magic chalk from around the world and rescue the other chalk users from the evil king. This journey isn't one of escape but of heroism and bravery.

I absolutely loved this book, just like the last book. The art is breathtaking, the story beautiful, and this series continues to surprise and thrill me. Becker continues to make amazing books in this series that uses no words but still manages to tell really captivating and interesting stories. I am so excited to see where Becker takes this story in the final book of the trilogy.

This story follows the Girl with the Red Chalk and the Boy with the Purple Chalk as they enter their magical world again, this time to save fellow magic chalk users and end the reign of an evil king. The learn that to save the day they have to gather the rainbow of magic chalk. I really liked this plotline because it transitioned so smoothly from the previous story. I loved that the kids weren't running away but running to the action and fighting the battles.

The art was of course beautiful. This is the best aspect of the book. Becker's books have some of the most beautiful artwork I've seen in picture books. I absolutely love the mixture of colours, the bland with the vibrant. I like how the contrast works between the regular and the magical, the pre- and post-rainbow. The art in this book is perfect.

I highly recommend this book, this series. Must-read!
