Vanity Fair
by William Makepeace Thackeray
I liked Vanity Fair. The novel that Charlotte Bronte, my favorite writer, idolized is really compelling in terms of its characters and their interpersonal dynamics. But, Thackery's writing style is so droll, dry, and long-winded. There wasn't a sentence throughout this massive novel where I stopped and went-- ah, brilliant. It's a mixed bag, and for a novel this long, that can be quite a problem. 6.5/10
