Air Awakens

3.5 stars, rounded up.
This book was enjoyable. It is a very standard YA fantasy book and didn't really feel too standout. However, I do think the plot and characters will develop for future books, so I'm interested to continue. This had a lot of your typical tropes - a nobody who is mostly invisible discovers she has abilities, finds herself an attractive prince who she bonds with, and gets caught up in political unrest.
I think we should all take a moment to appreciate that our MMC is, in fact, NOT a shadow daddy. All of the magic, at least so far, is very elemental (like so many other stories) BUT he does not have shadow abilities. Honestly, I think that deserves a few stars all on it's own.
