scarlet_frost 's review for:
Galway Bay
by Mary Pat Kelly
A beautiful tale of historical fiction with some parts coming from the authors own family history. This is incredibly well researched. It could not come much closer to my family’s own story of how we came to Canada, i found myself wondering if my ancestors were lucky enough to be one of the earlier people to leave, or if they had, was it in a coffin ship? So many hardships. My Grandparents who never set foot on Ireland themselves still have a dislike for the English and still remember how their families came here. I suppose that’s the Irish way, we pass our stories down from generation to generation. My surname was listed in this book.
If you can trace your family back to Ireland than this one is going to hit you right in the feels.
I was chopping a lot of onions while reading this book.
Ps. The story does seem rather Naive to start but you have to remember these girls are young, for they didn’t have the horrors of the internet to make them cynical, and they grew up on folktales of romance and fancy. Those were simplier times and the story totally redeems itself over the entirety of the book. Keep reading!
