This book was insane! It's filled with political intrigue, secrets, deception, betrayal, friendship, and romance. The story continues immediately after "The Curse of Saints." Aya and Will are now back in their kingdom. However, their duty has changed. As they try to learn more about the history of the saint and uncover what their queen is plotting, friendships and loyalty are tested, as well as the trust between Will and Aya. At the same time, Aidon has become King of Trahir and is trying to keep peace between the humans and Visyas. Not only does he face a lot of political challenges, but also have to deal with his affinity that can no longer be suppressed. The story contains so many subplots and moving parts. Although the pacing can be slow at times, it does pick up, and the buildup and the connections are so worth it. As for the characters, they are definitely more complex. Each of them faces their own struggles and fears. I love that we got to know them on a deeper level. It also plays an interesting dynamic when it comes to relationships. There is definitely a lot more angst and tension, but I love watching these characters work through these issues together, and if it leads to some steamy scenes, it was just an added bonus for me :).

I honestly cannot wait for the third and final installment, especially considering how the book ended. I feel it is going to be epic.
