I really didn’t like the first 20-30% of this book, but once I made it through that I found that the plot was much more engaging. I wasn’t sure at first, but I’d say that I liked this more than Iron Flame. The writing doesn’t do it for me though. Like why. are. we. talking. like. this. and why is everyone clicking their jaw? I also think the descriptions of what exactly is happening and the world-building is spotty. Like I have a feeling when the show airs I’m going to be like “oh so that’s what that looks like?” Also, the major cliff hanger annoys me because Yarros said in an interview she’s taking a break from the series to write another romance, so we are going to be waiting forever for the next book and by then I’ll probably forget what happened and be lost again. Overall, the book is fun but I wouldn’t say it’s my ‘roman empire’ and is a little overhyped, yet still entertaining.
