The King's Touch: Poems by Tom Sleigh
1.0

To start off, I want to say that I might not be the intended audience for this book.

I’m not a very political person and admittedly am not super familiar with humanitarian crises in other countries. If you aren’t familiar - and very familiar at that - with happenings in other countries, their cultures, and their struggles, I’m not sure if this is for you.
If you’re into politics and are pretty familiar with stuff going on in other counties, you might enjoy this collection.

He does set up a mood of a news broadcast, which is interesting because he doesn’t do much in the way of explaining what’s going on or who is who. He mentions a ton of groups and figures that seem to be really important to understanding what’s going on. I was looking up things every other sentence trying to figure out what he was referring to.

It seems like his goal is to spread information about what’s going on in other countries and make those of us who are not there or exposed to it aware of these crises and horrible injustices. However, his writing isn’t very accessible to those who aren’t well versed in these events prior to reading his work.

He does make a lot of references to clerical members and ancient greek figures which is a cool touch (no pun intended).

I gave it two stars because I was so confused the whole time, but it’s obvious that the book was written by a skilled poet.
