I enjoyed this, but not nearly as much as I would have liked to.

I really wanted this book to give me the same feeling the the Daevabad series did, but it fell flat in many ways.

I didn’t love the writing style, and the very short chapters with the POVs jumping back and forth held the story back imo. I was never able to fully engage with the text bc as soon as I really got into a chapter, it ended and switched POVs.

Additionally, some of the chapters felt meaningless, and the first 200 pages were a slog to get through, as nothing really happens before then. The four chapters of Zafira saying goodbye to all of her friends before she goes on her journey was so redundant and frankly frustrating having to read the same thing over and over bc again with no story progression.

I think this book was fun and I had a good time reading it, but it’s nothing mind blowing.
